A, B, C, D, F

A, B, C, D, F

who knew
that these five letters
would come to define you

i dont understand the school system
or the fact that grades determine our worth
we are weighed in value based on our ability to take tests
to regurgitate information we will make no use of
in the real world
that is what defines us
in the school system

i dont understand the school system
or the fact that we are measured by our grades
not by our personalities
or the goodness of our hearts
of our understanding of the world
but by the symbols
slashed in black ink
across our report cards
by the look of disappointment in our parents’ eyes
that is what defines us
in this school system

i dont understand the school system
or the fact that we have to go through each day
draining ourselvesby trying to fill ourselveswith information and answers
that we are convinced to be important

i love learning.
but i do not like school.
i love acquiring new information
and gaining knowledge about things i want to learn about.
i love discovering and working hard.
but i do not like school.

the fact that kids reach the point of stress
where they become physically sick
should really be enough
to conclude
that there is something wrong with this school system.

school is no longer about learning-
not anymore.
school is about staying up past midnight
and waking with dark bags hung below my heavy eyes
about feeling inadequate in everything i do
learning that no matter what you do
someone else can do it better
school is about being forced to learn in subjects
that you have no passion for
school is about those five, cold letters
that define you
those 5 symbols that decide your future

a, b, c, d, f
