Elodie Cerauskis
2-4-14
3rd period
Mrs. Bennett
A new Territory

I dipped my toe in the water
a cold shiver momentarily possessed my body
and jolted me awake to the early morning’s scenery
the gentled tide lightly slapped the shore
a cloudy sky covered the blueness it had formerly been
only letting the dark sapphire empyrean peek out to say hello
before it shyly retreated into it’s sea of darkness

I pushed the boat in the water
and hopped into the vessel
its freshly primed bottom a virgin to the water’s coldness
I shoved my foot off the dock one last time
to help propel my journey forward
the morning breeze chilled me to the bone
as the day was still young and could almost be mistaken as night
this same gust of wind mangled my already unbrushed hair more than I need to be
and puffed the sail off to my new beginning

I started to wander off into the horizon
alone and unaware of how to steer the ship
letting the water take me wherever it pleased
naive of the storm that was coming up ahead
already starting to brew in the clouds
the trip dragged on for hours
these were good hours ones I used to clear
my mind of reality
and what really awaited for me when I got
home...
