Prop 8
Marriage.
Such a simple word.
Yet the fragile threads that keep it together could not be more complicated.
Even in our modern society, our “accepting” society
most people view marriage as an eternity of “happiness” and “love”
between a man and a woman.
But what about gay couples?
People these days feel if it’s not in the Bible, it’s not okay.
God rules everything for them
controls the whole of their lives
decides what is right and wrong
But they always seem to forget that we as a society are constantly changing
shifting
adapting
We have come so far from what we used to be.
Less racism, less violence, more education.
More accepting, or at least that’s what we convince ourselves it is
But even with all of these improvements,
why can’t we wrap our heads around the fact that love is love?
Love has no definition.
Only defined by the two people feeling it.
Whether it is a man and a woman
a man and another man
or two woman
love is always the same.
Finally, gay couples are able to feel accepted in society
allowed to be married and be happy for the first time.
Don’t ruin it with your one-sided beliefs
your religion
your insubstantial opinions
If it is not affecting you,
don’t fight it
You will be denying two people just as entitled as you are to their happiness
that
not homosexuality
or any other sexual orientation that differs
from the twisted definition we continue to allocate to “normal”
only you and your indifference
